Kimberly Sanderson received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from Ithaca College. She has studied conducting with Dr. Stephen Peterson, Dr. Beth Peterson, Dr. Mark Fonder, and H. Robert Reynolds. She has studied music education with Dr. Keith Kaiser and Dr. Beth Peterson.
Mrs. Sanderson is an instrumental music teacher at Cortland Senior High School in Cortland, New York where she conducts the Senior High School Concert Band and teaches instrumental lessons. Outside of the classroom her duties include being Director of the Cortland Purple Tiger Marching Band and the High School Jazz Ensemble.
In addition to her dedication to her band program, Mrs. Sanderson is very active outside of school. Since 2003 she has served as the chairperson for the New York State School Music Association Zone 3 Junior High Area-All-State Festival. She is currently active as a solo festival adjudicator and guest conductor throughout New York State. Mrs. Sanderson has also served as the Vice-President of Secondary Bands for the Cortland County Music Teachers Association and has been a guest lecturer at Ithaca College during her tenure at Cortland.
Mrs. Sanderson has been elected to Pi Kappa Lambda, an honorary music fraternity, and is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), and the New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA). She was also selected to the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 2010.
Mrs. Sanderson is a freelance horn player in the Central New York area. She has played with the Ithaca College Faculty Brass Quintet and in the pit orchestras at Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland. She has also performed with the Ithaca Community Chorus Orchestra, College Community Orchestra at SUNY Cortland, Colgate University Orchestra, and is currently a member of the Homer Brass Ensemble.
